Where can I get Lavender colored pinstriping (not vinyl)?

same place you'd get any other pinstriping i'd guess, if not happy with colour, buy the cheapest purple, it'll fade quicker!

Buy a few close sample's, and try bleaching, or other solutions to alter the colours?? or surely you could get a custom vinyl type sticker made up, in any colour at all, (just saw not vinyl!)

Actually, just get pinstriping airbrushed on instead, ultimate solution!

How can I eradicate cuckoo spit on my lavender?

Spit bugs should just be ignored. Their lifespan is so short and they don't do any damage to the plants anyway. Insecticides will harm beneficial insects and the environment, and are a waste of money. The spit bug is immune to insecticides anyway because of it's protective "spit" coating. If they bug you that much, the hose trick works, or just wait, and they'll be gone in no time. You won't have to lift a finger!

How can I eradicate cuckoo spit on my lavender?
i had the same problem today; i used a strong jet of water with the hose ;it seemed to get rid of it for now;i don;t know if it will cure the problem ?just have to wait and see; try that ok/?good luck;;
Reply:The cuckoo spit is hiding a leaf hopper grub. Use the garden hose as advised, but follow it up with an insecticide spray to kill the bug.
Reply:Go with JT's advice this is spot on

Anyone know how to harvest and make lavender tea?

You harvest it at the healthfood store in the bulk spices and whole foods asile...

Any wild lavander I would be afraid of pesticides?

Then get a steep or a tea ball and boil some water and dip it in sweeten with raw sugar or honey and a slice of lemon and enjoy... Works well with camomile and sage leaves too.

VERY relaxing! Better than valium!

Anyone know how to harvest and make lavender tea?
Cut the buds and remove from the stem and boil. The buds will sink to the bottom or you can strain it.
Reply:Yes... I do!!
Reply:a most easier way is to get a teaspoon of flowers from your plant, pour a cup of boiling water over it for 10mins,when ready, get a tea strainer %26amp; strain flowers, add sugar, ready to drink, much more simplistic and easier.
Reply:You can either grow the plant, or buy dried lavender flowers at a health-food store (mine has a choice between organic and not - spring for organic if you're drinking it.)

When I harvest lavender, you can do it two ways - either snip off smaller branches or carefully run your hand from the bottom of the branch/stalk up to the tip, pulling just lightly enough to pull the blossoms up. You need to do it before they blossom, while they're still buds. You can use it fresh or hang it (as a stalk or in a thin cheesecloth or muslin bag if it's loose) in a dry, warm place.

To make tea from nearly any herb, just take a tablespoon or so, put it in a tea-ball or strainer, and add boiling (or nearly) boiling water to it. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so (longer than black tea) and drink. (If you don't have a tea-ball or strainer, get one - they're cheap and it opens up a world of tea.)
Reply:You can buy an english lavender plant at a plant store in spring.

It is a perrenial so it will come back each year if you treat it right.

In early summer it will produce purple flowers. They are the source of spice and tea. Strip the flowers off of the stem and dry them in open air.

I have a plant in my garden but I have never harvested it for tea. I always have found myself torn between harvesting it and having a sweet smelling garden.

here's a site on the web I found.

Is lavender plants annuals?

Well, that depends on where you live. In my USDA hardiness zone (zone 5), some are hardy others not.

I know that's a vague answer, but there are alot of species out there, with a variety of cold tolerances.

I hope that this helps

Is lavender plants annuals?
Mine come back every year. They die back a bit after the first frost, but are doing just fine this time of the year in Oregon.
Reply:No they arent they comme back every year after planting.
Reply:lavender is usually a perennial. If you live too far north it may be treated as an annual.
Reply:Actually I was reading up about them last night, because the ones I planted last year died out and I was planting new ones. Mine were coming back this spring until we got a late really cold blast in spring that killed them off.

They are perennials, but to make sure they make it through winter you really need to protect them in winter. My grandpa's old garden book said to cover them up with evergreen boughs or basically something to protect them. You could use pete moss or mulch or a cold frame probably also.

And also don't cut flowers from them late in fall. They need a certain amount of woody growth to come back. Wait till you start seeing green growth at the base in spring then cut them back to them back to about 1-2" to allow the growth to come from the base.

They are normally propogated from cuttings that are about 2" long or so. The top portion should be green with a little knub at the bottom that is woody for rooting.
Reply:Considered an herb, it is a semi-woody, semi-evergreen perennial. Lavender is a family of some 25- 30 plants native to the Mediterranean, growing in dry, rocky habitats.
Reply:Lavender plants are perennials, but some varieties don't do well in areas that freeze and are treated as annuals. I have one clump of Lavender Lady that never fails to return every year getting a little bigger each time. I am in the US - Zone 7, and I think this variety is hardier than most. I've planted a lot of different varieties and this is the only one that has managed to survive. I cut it back after the first real freeze, and I will get lots of blooms in the spring. I cut those, and usually get a second, smaller bloom in late summer.
Reply:Usually, but they are particular and sometimes don't do as well in the U.S. as in England.

Moving plants-lavender?

I planted lavender this summer in different locations. I planted some under a large tree and some in little shade. Dumb of me to plant unde the big tree because now its not really that big as the other. Ugh.. dunno what I was thinking. It is alive but its pretty much flowerless. The one under the least shade is the same but alittle bigger. This is the first year for the plants so is this normal for it not to have any flowering? Is it too late to move plants now if I do it when the sun is down? I was thinking I can dig a hole in the evening, fill it with water and put the plant in and put water in and it will probably be ok. I've done it before and the plants lived typically. When do you plant seeds for next spring?Part of my garden is under a large tree and does not have alot of growth. Can I fill in that area with plants that do well in alot of shade or with grass? Sorry for the dumb questions=)

Moving plants-lavender?
Lavender loves the sun. It needs good drainage also. You did not get flowers due to little sun. You should be able to move your plants, but do not expect flowers this year (depending on your location). If in a cooler area with shorter growing season, wait until Autuum, always a good time to plant shrubs and trees. Seeds, depends on your location, look at the seed packet. If you are in a area that gets frost. You will not be able to plant out annuals, until the frost is over, or need to protect from frost. Nurseries usually have plants for sale very early, they know if you loose your plants to frost, you will be back for more. Don't plant grass under your trees it will not do well. Ferns or hostas will be better. These are not dumb questions. I have moved from Ireland to Florida, and although I have gardened for many years, it is all different here in Florida. We never stop learning. Good Luck with your gardening.

What kind of protection does sage, sea salt, cinnamon and lavender offers the person who wears them?

Going by folklore and supernatural beliefs, define each herb and it's power. And why would a person without knowing what they are used for just feel the need to wear them daily.....is that insight?

What kind of protection does sage, sea salt, cinnamon and lavender offers the person who wears them?
Sage is both for purification and protection

Sea Salt is for both purification and protection

Cinnamon is for healing, protection, and some purification rituals (it is of lesser strength than Sage or Sea Salt)

Lavender is for healing, strength, purification in certain rituals, and also protection from malevolent spirits.

I would say it might be natural insight to wear them or feel like you have to wear them when you don't know what they are used for, or the myths (folk lore) about them... Then again, it could just be that the person likes them.
Reply:It protects you from body odor.
Reply:LOL Not all of those are herbs!

sage: general protection, but also commonly used for divination

salt: general protection, consecration/purification of a sacred space or ritual circle, and purification or consecration of an object or person.

cinnamon: purification of a sacred space, generic protection, and healing of the body. I think there is less focus on the 'protection aspect' than with the first two, though.

Lavender: not so much for protection as it is for sleep and relaxation.

I don't know why a person might be natually drawn to wear them. It could be insight, but it could also be that they are just pleasant, comfortable smells. Maybe there are some anxiety issues that need to be worked through, or another fear or nervousness of some kind. It's actually fairly abnormal for Western intuitives to wear herbs daily. Your body could just be very in tune with some things that comfort you, whether you have any emotional distress or not.
Reply:Protection from body odour.
Reply:These things will not do anything. It is God of heaven that blesses the creator of everything, not the created earbs! Worship the creator not the created!

How do you plant and take care of lavender flowersand can you tranis plant them?

Lavender likes poor quality soil and good drainage.

The following is an old trick used by gardeners in Victorian times.

To grow more lavender, put an old plant that is usually looking tired and "leggy" (long stems with little foliage)into a pot as wide as the plant is at the top. You must plant it really deep so that just the flowers and an inch of stem are showing at the surface. Water it well and leave outside. After a few months, each stem should have rooted and you can cut each one off from the main plant below the new roots. You will have as many new plants as stems.

Lavender is best known for its calming, relaxing effects. That's why folk medicine recommends it for healing nervous disorders. "Lavender" comes from the Latin lavare, which means "to wash." The Romans prized lavender for its intense aroma and used it in cosmetics and in their famous baths.

I am not much of a gardener, at least half of the plants I buy don't survive the season. Therefore I can confidently state that lavender is a hardy plant. My son's birthday gift to me in 1996 was an entire flat of lavender seedlings. Since lavender is one of the most beautiful (IMO) scents, and one of my favorites, I was tickled pink (or should I say purple?) I planted them as a hedge along our property line and have enjoyed both their beauty and their bounty ever since. I harvest the flower spikes just before the blossoms open, and usually get 3-5 harvests per season. This provides me with an abundant supply all through the year. As I am a 'lazy' gardener, this plant suits my skills well, requiring little in the way of care.

Lavender is a member of the mint family and grows in the form of dense bushes 2-3 feet in height. A perennial shrub, lavender has spear-shaped, silver-gray leaves that have smooth edges and grow opposite one another on the stems. Its flowers and leaves are covered with numerous oil glands. The plant has a slightly bitter taste (great in salads, for a little "bite") but it has a strong, pleasantly fragrant aroma. England's Queen Elizabeth I was partial to lavender. It is said that she drank as many as 10 cups of lavender tea a day to relieve migraines; she also doused her body with lavender perfume.

Although now cultivated primarily in Provence in the south of France, lavender grows in the wild on dry, rocky hills of the western Mediterranean and in Greece. While the herb usually thrives in sunny, warm, temperate regions, it actually grows in the coldest regions of the U.S. The flowers, harvested as buds, and their essential oil are both used medicinally.

The essential oil contained in lavender flowers has a calming effect. It is comprised primarily of linalyl acetate and linalool. The flowers also contain tannins, coumarins and flavonoids. It is a powerful antiseptic containing more than 200 compounds that are active against fungi, viruses and other microbes.

Taken internally, lavender is a mild sedative. It counteracts feelings of restlessness and dizziness, and it brings welcome relief to those suffering from headaches and migraines. It also eases stomach discomfort and symptoms of nervous intestinal disorders, such as flatulence and bloating. Applied externally, lavender soothes sore muscles and reduces swelling, so it's beneficial for bruises and sprains. The most famous healing use for lavender blossoms is perhaps in the bath, where they have long proved relaxing, tension melting and sleep inducing. It also helps alleviate depression. On sleepless nights, place a lavender sachet under your pillow to induce drowsiness. Brewed into a tea, the flowers also impart sedative as well as antispasmodic properties, relieving headaches, coughs and nervous indigestion. Topically, the diluted essential oil relieves aching muscles and, with its antibacterial effects, cleanses, soothes and heals cuts, stings and burns. Cosmetic uses abound, and savvy cooks add blossoms to cakes, fruit salads, puddings and confections.

The best known active components in lavender are geraniol, cineole and coumarin. These ingredients have a strong cleansing and germicidal effect and are believed to be particularly valuable for the treatment of inflammatory conditions and pain. Lavender also brings swift relief from digestive problems and various skin irritations.

--------------------------------------...

Medicinal Uses:

For the breasts: Lavender oil can be rubbed onto the breasts to help tone and tighten the skin. Add 2 drops of the oil to 3 tbsp. of a base oil, such as sweet almond; apply to breasts daily.

For skin irritations: Lavender water promotes good circulation in the skin and prevents infections of the sebaceous glands. For a facial lotion, add 3 drops of lavender oil to 1 quart of distilled water; dab on daily.

For insomnia: Lavender oil has a calming effect and can be used to induce sleep when you're feeling stressed or anxious. Put a few drops of lavender oil on an aromatherapy stone (available in most herbal stores) and place it in your bedroom, or have a cup of lavender tea half an hour or so before retiring for the night. Its soothing effects will help you sleep soundly through the night.

For nerve pain: Lavender oil helps to relieve pain and inflammation due to neuralgia. Mix 10 drops of the oil with 2 tbsp. of St. John's-wort oil and gently rub into the affected areas for pain relief.

For sunburn relief: Add 10 drops of lavender oil to 4 oz. of water. Store the liquid in a plastic spray bottle and take it with you to the beach to spritz on sunburned skin as needed.

For first degree burns: Lavender oil is one of the few essential oils that is safe to use "neat", or undiluted, on the skin. Keep a small bottle in your kitchen cabinet to treat first-degree burns. One to two drops directly on the burn will relieve pain and reduce the risk of blisters.

For middle-ear infections: Saturate a cotton ball in olive oil, drip 5 drops of lavender oil onto it and place it on the outer part of the affected ear. The lavender oil will help relieve the pain and inhibit the inflammation that often accompany ear infections.

Cramping or colic: Lavender essential oil can be used externally to alleviate stomachaches, cramping or colic. Combine 30 drops of lavender oil, 10 drops of chamomile oil and 3? oz. of cold-pressed olive oil in a bottle and shake vigorously. Massage this blend gently onto the abdomen for 10 min., using broad circular movements. Rest for a brief period, and then apply a hot-water bottle to the affected area for 30 min.

--------------------------------------...

Around the House

Add several drops of lavender oil to the washer's final rinse cycle, or scent a cloth with a few drops of lavender oil and throw it in the dryer to freshen a load of newly laundered clothes.

Place a handful of lavender buds in an old sock, knot it and store it in a drawer with your linens.

To purify indoor air:

4 drops lavender oil

2 drops bergamot oil

2 drops lemon oil

Place this mixture of essential oils in a simmer pot to help freshen the air. The oils have a powerful cleansing action. The fresh scent also exerts an uplifting effect on the mind, body and spirit. Lavender combines particularly well with citrus oils.

--------------------------------------...

Methods of Administration:

Tea Infusion: Pour 1 cup boiling water over ? tsp. lavender flowers. Cover and steep. Strain after 5-10 min.

Lavender Oil: For muscle cramps and rheumatic symptoms, combine 15 drops of lavender oil with 1 oz. of vegetable oil; rub into the affected parts. If you suffer from bad headaches and migraines, massage 1 drop of oil into your temples. Or mix 5 drops of oil in 1-2 cups hot or cold water. Dip a washcloth into water, wring it out; then place it on the back of the neck for 2-10 min. For fast relief from a headache, you can also just breathe in the scent of lavender blossoms. I keep a bundle of lavender in every room of the house as well as in my car. I suffer from sinus headaches due to an air-born mold allergy, and this works immediately.

In a bath: For poor circulation and low blood pressure: Bring 1 tbsp. of flowers to a boil in 1 pt. of water. Strain after 10 min. and add to bathwater. Or, simply add 5 drops of oil directly into the bathwater, you can also use an emulsifier to help the oil blend well with the bathwater. Mix 5 drops of lavender oil with 1 cup of heavy cream or 1 tsp. of honey and add it to the tub.

--------------------------------------...

Care:

Plant lavender in well-drained soil - the shrub will not tolerate water buildup. Loosen the soil regularly, and keep it free of weeds. To ensure abundant growth, add compost in early spring. If temperatures in your area routinely drop below freezing, cover more tender lavender varieties with spruce bundles or leaves in the fall, removing the covering in early spring. Lavender's aroma is loved by bees. When planted in vegetable gardens and orchards, the shrub enhances pollination.

Harvesting and processing:

To harvest and dry flowers, cut off stalk tips just before full blooming, preferably at midday, when the oil content is highest. Tie them into bundles and hang them upside down in a shaded, well-ventilated place to dry. When dried, separate flowers from leaves. Leaves are used dried for seasoning. Keep dried leaves and flowers in separate airtight containers. The essential oil is extracted using steam distillation.

Guide to Cultivation

Lavender plants are readily available and grow equally well in the garden and in containers, as long as they have full sun. They can winter in pots placed in a warm window with at least 8 hours of sunlight. You can also grow lavender from seed. There are many varieties; for sprouting from seed, try the early-blooming "Munstead" or "Lady" varieties. Plant seed when they are freshly purchased.

Seeding and planting

Generously sow the seeds in a tray with potting soil. Cover them with a thin layer of soil, and pat down lightly. Keep the soil moist and at about 68°F. Seeds will sprout in 2-3 weeks.

Keep the seedlings in direct light for the most rapid growth.

When seedlings grow to be 1-2 in. tall, transfer them to small pots filled with well-drained, sterile potting soil.

In late May to early June, (I planted mine in early August, and still had a harvest that year, so don't worry!) plant the seedlings in larger pots, window boxes or the garden. Individual plants should be planted 12-16 in. apart.

Propagation

In either spring or fall, cut 3-in.-long tender shoots below leaf bunches. Strip the lower two-thirds of leaves from each cutting. Place the cuttings, far enough apart so they are not touching, in a pot of moist vermiculite or sand-peat mixture. Keep moist and out of direct light. You know roots have sprouted when new top growth appears or when shoots resist gentle tugging. Plant in well-drained soil in the garden or pots.

Magickal Information

Folk Names: Elf Leaf, Nard, Nardus, Spike

Gender: Masculine

Planet: Mercury

Element: Air

Power: Love, Protection, Sleep, Chastity, Longevity, Purification, Happiness, Peace

Magickal Uses

Lavender has long been used in love spells and sachets. Clothing rubbed with the fragrant flowers (or lavender placed in drawers with clothes) attracts love. A piece of paper on which you've rubbed lavender is excellent for writing love notes. The scent of lavender particularly attracts men, and lavender water or the essential oil was worn by prostitutes several centuries ago to both advertise their profession as well as to attract (through magick) customers. Lavender also protects against cruel treatment at the hands of a spouse if worn.

These flowers are also burned or smouldered to induce sleep and rest, and are scattered around the home to maintain its peacefulness. The plant is so powerful that, if when depressed, one gazes upon the plant all sorrow will depart and a joyous feeling will settle upon the observer.

Indeed, the odor of lavender is conducive to long life, and so should be smelled as often as possible if this is a concern.

Lavender is also used in healing mixtures, carried to see ghosts, and worn to protect against the evil eye. It is added to purification baths.

Despite lavender's love associations, in the Renaissance it was believed that lavender together with rosemary, if worn, would preserve a woman's chastity.

A wish divination: Place lavender under your pillow while thinking of your wish. Do this just prior to retiring for the night. In the morning, if you have dreamt of anything relating to your wish, it will come true. However, if you did not dream, or if they were unconnected with your wish, it will not manifest.

Reply:Hi,

Right now is a good time to get your cuttings as the "Sap" is down. Sap goes to the bottom during the fall/winter so you can take cuttings. Sap is up during the Spring/Summer, it is harder to get them to live from cuttings.

If you already have a placed picked out that you want to plant the lavender at, make sure you new site is prepared, get some peat moss, line the new hole with this, sprinkle some Miracle Grows Transplant Liquid Plant food into the peat moss (the peat moss will help your cuttings to establish rootings).

Go to the main site where your main lavender is, separate what part you are wanting to take with a shovel or sharp knife, making sure you get some root to transfer to the new site.

Take the new cutting to the new site, set it where you want it, place 1/2 of the dirt around it, making sure the peat moss is around the roots, or cuttings if you didn't get any roots (keep the peat moss wrapped around the cuttings) water good, add remaining dirt.

You should be set, just keep it watered to generate the root growth in the ground.

I have placed many cuttings with/without roots in the ground to watch them take off come Spring time!

Good luck and have a great week! Bless you!

I have items in my room that are like a lavender and lime green what ccolor should i paint my wallss???? HELP!
How about two walls of each; Or how about lime green walls with lavender polka dots? Or lavender walls with green stripes? Polka dots are easy to do, draw around any size circle you want (dinner plate; CD 78 record; cup; glass; biscuit cutter ) you get the idea. Then after the circles are done, just fill in the color; How about a white wall with polka dots the two colors?
Reply:i think a nice egg shell or lite cream color for the walls would help the items you mentioned kind of POP out ...... i think it would be real nice all together ( the colors)
Reply:I would go with an ecru color to soften things. Or, if you want those items to really stand out, paint it a stark white.
Reply:what about butter yellow
Reply:you could paint the walls a similar lavender color...that would be pretty....and then get some curtains with the lavender and the lime green colors in it..

What if I don't like Lavender essential oil?

Lavender essential oil is said to have calming and relaxing properties. Putting some on the wrist or adding a few drops to the bath is supposed to be very calming. But I don't really like Lavender. I think it's stinky and it gives me a headache. Anything I don't like the scent of gives me a headache.

What is another essential oil that I could try that has the same calming and relaxing properties of Lavender?

What if I don't like Lavender essential oil?
Scents are very subjective. There's a lot more play than aromatherapist would tell you.

So while lavender is generally a relaxing scent it's not for everyone. There are lots of other scents to choose from. Try smelling sandalwood or patchouli or rose. Then pause after each and note who they make you feel. If it's a relaxed pleasant feeling buy it. Orange and peppermint are generally stimulating but other than that the field is wide open.

When /how is the best way to divide a lavender plant that has gottn too big for its space?

No, sorry you cannot divide lavender. Lavandula (lavender) are technically classified as shrubs or subshrubs. They grow from a single stem, so there is nothing to divide. If you need to move it because it has outgrown its space, you have to dig up the entire root ball and move the plant and root ball to a new location.

The only way you can propagate a lavender plant is by sowing the seed or taking cuttings.

Propagation:

http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/plantfinde...

http://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/pro...

Sowing seed:

"Lavender seeds have a low germination rate (how many seeds out of 100 come up). They can also take a long time to sprout (two weeks or more). Seeds benefit from light, so cover lightly when sowing. The germination temperature should be around 70 degrees and spring seeding is more successful than fall seeding. Those seeds that do sprout will take one to three months before they have enough roots and top growth to allow successful transplanting. Adding fertilizer to the sterile medium used in the seed tray can help the little plants get off to a better start.

After they are transplanted into small pots, the plants will be about three inches tall and have a single stem. It will take another three months or more to make a plant substantial enough to transplant to a larger pot or to the garden."

-I saved this above info. a long time ago but lost the link.

Good luck. :)

When /how is the best way to divide a lavender plant that has gottn too big for its space?
That's right, you can't (or shouldn't) divide a lavender plant, but you can prune it quite a bit. It might look bad at first, but it will get bushier and end up looking a lot better in the long run. Spanish lavender can have up to half of the foliage cut back and English lavender can have one third of the foliage pruned. It's best to do this in early spring. After it blooms you can prune it a second time. Plants are relatively cheap, so if you need a smaller plant, try a dwarf lavender plant instead and remove the old and overgrown one.
Reply:when it has gotton to big for it's space divide it.separate the roots carefuly and you will be fine.

Can i plant lavender in a pot?

You certainly can. Lavender will tolerate quite dry situations, and does not like being waterlogged, so make sure you get enough drainage in the pot. Choose a pot big enough for a good spread of roots....it will partly depend if you have a large or mini-variety of lavender.

Depending on where you are, you can leave it outside in the winter too.

It will flower best in a sunny spot, and attract bees and maybe butterflies.

Can i plant lavender in a pot?
yes
Reply:You certainly can! The smell is lovely. What a nice addition to the house. There are several varieties some grow very tall and will not be suitable for indoor use. Check with a green house for a smaller variety that doesn't need frequent cutting. Lavender, once it grows, grows very quickly. Lavender is a known sleep aid, so if you have trouble sleeping put a sprig or two inside your pillow case.

Of the natural floral scents as perfumes, which is nicer, lavender or rose?

I sometimes like to use old fashioned flower perfumes, such as lavender scent, rose, lilly of the valley etc. My two favourites are lavender and rose. But which is the most beautiful?

Of the natural floral scents as perfumes, which is nicer, lavender or rose?
I personally love lavender. I can be completely stressed out but as soon as I burn my lavender candle I start to feel better.
Reply:not sure. but i like lavender candles.
Reply:This question requires an opinionated answer. If you are just asking for opinions I like Rose.
Reply:lavender, as a word its beautiful read, and as a scent its my girlfriends fav, i'd go with lavender
Reply:Personally, I like rose much better.
Reply:Lavendar! Delicious!
Reply:I'd choose lavender over rose.
Reply:i like lavender.
Reply:Well I will answer this from an allergy stand point. Lavender is milder TO ME and I dont feel the urge to sneeze when I smell it.
Reply:Lavender would be my choice over rose. Lavender is a more universally appealing scent and stays fresher longer than rose. Men tend to like lavender on women (from scientific articles and magazine polls I've read) because it's feminine but not overpowering. Rose scents can be cloying, overly sweet, and dominate other notes.

In the end, choose the one you like best!
Reply:I like rose, but of the 2 I prefer lavendar. However, Lilac is my favorite of the florals. I sometimes also like to wear Myrrh, Frankincense or Spikenard perfume.
Reply:i would have to say lavender...very clean%26amp;%26amp;classy. never can go wrong with lavender :]
Reply:lavender

Reply:WELL IT COULD BE POSSIBLE..BUT I NEVER SAW IT..IT WOULD BE KOOL THOUGH
Reply:I met Elizabeth Taylor and her eyes were purple/violet.They were gorgeous, and real, no contacts!!
Reply:I've never heard of anyone having purple eyes without help from contact lenses.

I know that lavender blossoms are part of Herbes de Province...?

... used for culinary purposes.

Do you ever use them in your cuisine?

I know that lavender blossoms are part of Herbes de Province...?
I have never cooked with them, but I have eaten Lavender Cake. Lavender is a speciality here in the UK in the county of Norfolk. Lavender Cake is divine! The cake itself has little lavender flowers in, which make it taste a bit like seed cake, and the icing is flavoured with lavender, and it's very sweet and fragrant.

Another Norfolk speciality is Lavender bread. I have never tried this, however.

Here are some links to some interesting recipes:

Reply:It's herbes de Provence! No, I dry them and put them in my linen cupboard.
Reply:Actually, I just came across a recipe for Lavender Vanilla cookies at www.mccormick.com. I thought they would be interesting to try, but finding lavender would be difficult for me. It's not something my grocery store keeps in stock.

I used to have a lavender plant and never knew what to do with the blossoms, besides make sachets out of them.
Reply:I use them all the time. It has a very strong taste that I like.

I use it in a dish I basically made up

Chicken cubes fried in olive oil.

Onion (sliced)

garlic cloves (sliced)

tin of chopped tomatoes.

Herbes de Provence. (teaspoon or so)

add Oragano %26amp; basil to taste (pesto is a good source of the basil, about a teaspoon)

Simmer for 15mins

Serve on Penne.

Mmmmm.... nice. The herbes de Provence really adds a bite thats nice.

Edit: about the lavander. as far as i can see there's not any in. mine says it's a blend of bay leaves, sage, parsley, thyme %26amp; rosemary.

no lavander there...

Why is lavender oil not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy?

My mid-wife said not to use lavender oil/lotion or any other products with lavender in them for the entire pregnancy. Why... because apparently it triggers contractions. I have to say, at 40 weeks I actually smeared a whole bunch on hoping it would do the trick and went near any lavender bush I saw, but I was still 5 days past my due date.

Why is lavender oil not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy?
Lavendar oil is an aroma theapy scents. This is a very relaxing smell. But you do not want to over do it with this type of oil. It may be ok for you, but not for your baby. Yes lavendar is very relaxing, it can also be very strong depending on how much it is used, and how many times you use it.
Reply:i have never heard of this. I thought that lavender was supposed to be relaxing.
Reply:lavendar, and rosemary have always been warned against during pregnancy. Its a uterine stimulant. and that would cause you to miscarry.

Stay away from caffiene too. it can do that too.
Reply:I never heard that.

Does target sell lavender seeds...what about walmart?

how much should i expect to spend on them..i only need a little.im growing them indoors

Does target sell lavender seeds...what about walmart?
Target may. I know Wal-Mart does. They are most likely about a dollar for a packet.
Reply:I had went to Wal-Mart to buy seeds since I am a avid gardener. I bought vegetable and flower seeds. They sell lavender seeds, I even bought some. The Walmart Gardens brand of seeds is 97 cents/pack. You will get plenty of seeds.

I am not sure about Target but more than likely, they sell lavender seeds. I do not know the cost of the seeds.

Why would lavender be recommended for use as medicine or supplement that promotes good health?

Lavender is popular for its calming and relaxing fragrance, often found in soaps, lotions, candles and shampoos.

However, herbalists often tout lavender as having a number of medicinal properties, including helping with insomnia and anxiety, depression and mood disturbances.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, recent studies seems to show that lavender produces calming, soothing, and sedative effects.

Here is what else they say about it:

1. The essential oil is extracted from the fresh flowers of the lavender plant and used for medicinal purposes.

2. Although professional herbalists and aromatherapists use lavender to treat a variety of conditions, clinical studies so far have only demonstrated benefit for insomnia and alopecia (hair loss).

3. In folklore, pillows were filled with lavender flowers to help the restless fall sleep. There is now scientific evidence to suggest that aromatherapy with lavender slows the activity of the nervous system, improves sleep quality, promotes relaxation, and lifts mood in people suffering from sleep disorders.

4. In one study of 86 people with alopecia areata (a disease of unknown cause characterized by significant hair loss), those who massaged their scalps with lavender and other essential oils daily for 7 months experienced significant hair re-growth.

5. Aromatherapists also use lavender as a tonic in inhalation therapy to treat headaches, nervous disorders and exhaustion. Herbalists treat skin ailments, such as fungal infections (like candidiasis), wounds, eczema and acne, with lavender oil.

You also also find more details on how to use it, dosage, possible side effects and interactions.

Hope this helps!

Help with lavender bush?

This year I planted a lavender bush in a large pot in the garden. It has grown really well and has flowered but in the last few weeks it seems to have grown very high and leggy, quite scraggy looking although the foliage at the bottom is still quite dense, underneath it is very brown despite regular watering and drainage. I have it on my patio which is in shade during the morning and sun during most of the afternoon. Just wondering what I'm doing wrong? Does it need an even bigger pot even though it's in a big one, or is lavender really suitable for pots or is better suited for garden planting? Also does it ever have to be cut back and if so when? Would be grateful for any help as I don't want to ruin it as it smells wonderful! Thanks!

Help with lavender bush?
I am not a gardener but I keep Lavender for the smell and also as a hedge. I keep cutting off the flower stalks for use in vases and lavender bags etc and when all the flowers are used up I cut back the wood to about 6 inches in length. Next year they all come back just like a new plant. Underneath can be very brown or dead looking but this I think is caused by lack of sunlight etc but you can cut back to beyond this. My lavenders are now 3 years old and still thriving well. They are hardy and need very little attention apart from cutting as above.
Reply:The site below has tips and techniquest that should help.
Reply:Lavender looooves all the sun and heat it can get. So, morning shade is not optimum, as it takes on more moisture...especially in high humidity areas of the country.

So place it in an area that gets the most air circulation and light as you can, or just be happy with a moderately attractive, great-smelling plant. I have mine trimmed to topiary or bush-style so they get full air circulation to keep down mold and fungus issues.

Mine are all in pots as we are a high-humidity area in the South. They like well-drained soil too. Remember, they are herbs, so they do not need as much rich soil or fertilizer as you might think. They are a bit masochistic!
Reply:gotta cut em down when they die.
Reply:I have 2 lavenders bought at same time at Hampton Court flower show last year. One is still in its pot - the other in the ground.

I was told they like to be cut back quite hard after flowering.

That means you cut it the straggly branches down including the finished flowers.

My plants aren't particularly big and bushy so I trim to just below the existing foliage. By doing so you promote new growth which is green and also further flowers!

So don't be afraid to trim away the dead stuff! My cousin's neighbour brutally cuts her lavender back to about 3 inches of stem and although it looks like she's killed it, it always grows back beautifully!
Reply:Yep, thats what they do. Some newer cultivars do it less but they all go straggly. If it has finished flowering cut back all the stems to leave just a little bit of green at the bottom. If you cut back into the brown it will probably die. After about 3 years buy a new one, or take a cutting from it.

The smart, tidy, all green lavenders you see in show gardens are always young plants.

Would a light lavender/violet tattoo. be that visibl.e on the bottom of the wrist?

I wanted a white ink tattoo. but they have the potential to yellow or brown and most artists do not use white ink anyways... so someone on here suggested a pale violet which sound beautiful to me! But i was wonderign if it would be that noticeable. I have very pale skin.. i dont want it to be THAT noticeable. what other colors would you suggest? i dont want it bold liek black.. just something slightly noticeable.. does pale violet fade over time?

Would a light lavender/violet tattoo. be that visibl.e on the bottom of the wrist?
Pale violet has the potential to change on you as well. It all depends on your underlying skin tone, how much sun exposure you get, etc. We have done color refreshers on purple tattoos looking very gray.

It is not that most artists do not use white ink, it is just not traditionally used exclusively alone for a tattoo. It is for highlighting for the most part. There is a sudden call for it because of Linday Lohan's tattoo.

Talk to your professional tattoo artist in person to make this determination. They know how their inks perform on your particular skin type.
Reply:All tattoos fade over time.

I say go with your gut feeling, do what you want...
Reply:Pale violet or lavender sounds really beautiful. But since you don't really want it to be noticeable, do not get it on your wrist. Get it somwhere that only you a lone will know that it is there.
Reply:All artists use white, just not that often. White shows up best on light skin, believe it or not, but then any color shows up best on light skin. Tattoos on the back of the wrist are fairly popular at the moment, so just don't follow a trend. If you don't want it to be THAT noticeable, then why your wrist at all?! Placement is almost as important as the tattoo itself. It's permanent, remember?
Reply:powder blue, pale yellow, pink, hmmmmm thats all i got
Reply:I think with your skin being pale you should get something bright and vibrant... this coming from someone who has a limit to the colors i can use because I'm brown skin. Something not that noticeable... the lavender does sound beautiful. Or yellow... pink... a light blue... light green... if you stay pastel like, you shouldn't be disappointed. But a wrist tattoo will be noticed. If this is your first, or one you would want to hide, put it in a less visible place. Good Luck Sweetie Pie!
Reply:Light violet lavender sounds beautiful! But if you are concerned about it showing, I would NOT get it on the wrist.
Reply:pale violet sounds like it will be a good color for you. no matter what, tattoos fade over time. how well you take care of them determines how long of a time period they will stay bright and brilliant. the less sun exposure they have the better. good luck!
Reply:Sounds like you don't really want it to be that noticable. I think a tatt on your ankle would be better for you. For me personally I like bright colors.
Reply:I don't know about fading, but someone I know has really pale pale skin and she has a lavender tattoo with black lining. It's very noticeable but looks amazing, and very feminine
Reply:it seems like you don't want your tattoo noticable. better not have one.

Where can I buy seeds for blue petunias, that are actually blue and not lavender or purple?

Color is in the eye of the beholder, but try these two -- the first is one I think is more blue than purple, the second is LOTS of them, with photos, so you can see if any of them match your needs. Good luck!

Where can I buy seeds for blue petunias, that are actually blue and not lavender or purple?
As the first poster said, color is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Below are 2 additional sources. Burpee is a well-known seed provider and they offer a sky-blue petunia. Swallowtail Garden's is more of a midnight blue.
Reply:Blue petunias are produced by a very complex process involving the addition of genes from other plants. The resulting seeds are expensive, patented and marketed to growers who grow special plants like Proven Winners to gardeners. I can almost guarentee you that most of the seed you can buy for blue petunias in catalogues will be a disappointment for you.

Are " Le Mas des Abeilles" Lavender Honey good? Has anyone tried it and is it authentic?

I am a former chef and love lavander honey, along with the greek one that the bee's pollenate rosemary flowers, here in Canada we have some from Quebec were the blueberry flowers were done, and then there is the US Orange Blossom one to. The name on e the jar means loosley translated as the "Hive of Bee's".

It is a bit more flavourful than plain honey and a bit milder than buckwheat, I like to use it over plain yougart, on fresh berries, as a tangy addition to a glaze for both ham and roast leg of lamb and I mix it into the herbs de provence when seasoning lamb chops or roasts.

It also makes a special ice cream made with lavander blossoms infused in the milk that much more special, I had it Nice, France once.

Are " Le Mas des Abeilles" Lavender Honey good? Has anyone tried it and is it authentic?
I haven't tried it, but authentic what? Like authentic honey, authentic lavender honey, what?

I have gold striped beetles with green heads on my lavender making foam wil they distroy the plant?

We used to call these cuckoo spit beetles. Inside what you call foam (spit) there will be a tiny green insect, which when it emerges will jump like crazy when you touch it, Totally harmless to plants.

Are orhids poisonous to cats? Are daisys or hyacinths or lavender posionous?
Call your local poison control center. The only one I'm sure of is lavender, which can be used in cooking. It's not poisonous to people, but cats can be sensitive to stuff that people aren't.
Reply:I have heard that the pollen from stargazers lillies is poionous to cats. One they are safe with is called catmint (nepata mussini) very pretty, as pretty as lavender but dies down in the winter whereas lavender is hardy and evergreen.
Reply:Not to my knowledge
Reply:NOT IN THE UK IM SURE THE SAME IN US
Reply:If you want a cat-friendly plant try Nepeta catari; cats go banannas for this plant.

It could be near a draft, they like to be kept in a warmer part of your room.

How to use lavender essential oil ?

How do i use lavender essential oil to help me sleep?

i got some oil from the body shop, but the instructions tell me not to inhale it, so how can i put some drops on my pilliow? do i have to mix it with water or oil of somehting?

How to use lavender essential oil ?
Don't inhale it whatever you do! Just drink it.
Reply:Don't drink it... Report It
Reply:If you have purchased pure essential oil...you can certainly inhale it. Retailers really need to protect people from themselves and themselves from dumb people. Check with the retailer if they have any guidelines for use. Does the bottle say anything more than "Lavender"? Is there a botanical name? Lavenders are not all alike. I suspect that it would be fine to put a few drops on your pillow. If you want to dilute it for use on the body, start with a 3% solution. You can always increase the %. If you have a diffusor, use only pure undiluted essential oils. If you have a duft lamp, you can put water in the well with the essential oils.
Reply:i have some from a place called wood farm in norfolk, which u put on yor pillow or in the bath. not sure about body shop stuff tho.

dont worry, i know its not useful information.
Reply:I do know you can use lavender oil for flies in Illinos.
Reply:A few drops of oil in a warm bath before bed is a great way to get a good nights sleep. Also, you can put a few drops of the oil on a tissue or cotton ball and just place it near your bed. Just don't put it right up to your nose!
Reply:You can certainly inhale it directly from the bottle. Be careful thought, a little lavender oil is very relaxing, but alot can be stimulating, and that will not help you sleep.

A few drops in the bath is nice (up to six), drops on a cotton ball near your pillow is nice too.

Have you seen the little candle burners, where you put some water in the dish, and add a few drops of oil. The candle heats the water, and the oils goes into the room. That would be nice in your bedroom before going to sleep.

You can dilute it (to say 2-3%) and get a massage (or massage it on yourself) before bed.

Also, some people are going to try to sell you "therapeutic-grade essential oils" run away from them! It's a hack MML company that overcharges for oils and other problems.
Reply:You can put some on a cotton ball and put in your pillowcase.

You can rub your feet with a little.Adding some to a lotion and rubbing your feet with that. Duo benefit.
Reply:I know that "Silky Scents" has essential oils %26amp; organic essential oils, and they have a free recipe section. You'll probably be able to find all the information there. Plus they have the pictures of each plant. You can google their name to find them online.
Reply:Make sure you have purchased 100% pure lavender essential oil. There are many ways to use this to help you sleep/ relax. A few drops on your pillow, in a diffuser, 20 drops in your bath, in a lotion that you can massage on your skin. I recommend rubbing it directly on the soles of your feet, and putting some in a spray bottle with water and spraying it all over your bed. If it is pure lavender, you are safe to use it direct on your skin or to breathe in from a diffuser or bed linens or any of the ideas i have given you. Beware of imitation lavender oil, it can be toxic. I suggest that you dilute 20 drops lavender and 10 drops pure essential oil of roman chamomile oil in an ounce of almond oil, and massage on your temples, abdomen and feet. You will sleep like a new born baby.

Can you use essential oils in tea? Like lavender essential oil?

or others?

Can you use essential oils in tea? Like lavender essential oil?
Lavender oil, or any essential oil for that matter, should never be taken internally unless administered or prescribed by a full quaified aromatherapist or other health professional specialising in the uses and administration of such essential oils .............. what did you want to heal??

Try putting a few drops of pure essential lavender oil in a warm bath and soak in that for 15 - 20 minutes ~ inhale the beautifull calming aromas. It reduces stress and calms the nervous system, lifts depression and eases headaches and insomnia too ?

caution ~ avoid using for the first 4 months ofpregnancy, longer if there is a history of miscarriage........... if that is the case simply substitue for chamomile tea ... Chamomile tea is a classic and popular bedtime anti - insomnia drink and will soothe the over excitable, relieve mental strain and stress, depression and insomnia............... only organic though, as the commercial varieties have had nearly all the essential oils pulverised from them and could never possibly be used for therapeutic purposes.

take care of you ?

CHEERS

?

Star 4 u !! ....:0)
Reply:NO ESSENTIAL OIL SHOULD EVER BE TAKEN

INTERNALLY!!!!!

Essential oils should be diluted with a carrier oil

for use in body massage.

Please read and understand

what you are using BEFORE

using it.

Putting a full strength essential oil into tea would

most likely kill you.

To help you sleep, put a few

drops of the oil on a cloth and

put it under your pillowcase.

the same with hops extract.
Reply:Essential oils are not ment for tea. Would you put Perfume or cologne in your tea? In a sense that's sorta what you're asking. Essential oils can be used on the skin if made for that or in a vaporizer. Use the essential oils for what they were made for not anything else.. you don't want to make yourself sick do you?
Reply:essential oils arent supposed to be taken orally. The neat oils shouldnt be put straight onto skin either...they must be mixed in a base oil, such as olive oil and then used on the skin for massage or alternatively you can put a few drops in bath water... To help you sleep, try putting a few drops of the neat oil on your pillow. DONT DRINK IT!!
Reply:I am an Aromatherapist and I would recommend putting just a drop of lavender on your pillow at night, and remember that less is better don't try adding more to help you sleep because it will have the opposite effect. if it is too strong it will act as a stimulant. As for the tea why not try chamomile tea it is very relaxing. Ingesting a drop of lavender wont kill you, I have had it before with mixed with honey but I wouldn't recommend it really doesn't taste nice at all!!!! There are very highly qualified Aromatherapist that do ingest essential oils but they have done a lot if research and that's a whole other story!!
Reply:It depends on the essential oil. How about the essential oil of banana that is in bananas?

It does pay to use care. Some herb and essential oil cataloges separate the edible oils from the others.

Look up essential oils. Some are in foods as well, and some are poisons
Reply:Massage of the scalp with Lavender oil is refreshing and relieves the symptoms of headache which is also a cause of sleeplessness.

Why isn't my lavender plant blooming?

I planted 2 lavender plants in my garden this spring. I believe they are getting enough sun, but perhaps I am giving them too much water. The foilage looks nice and healthy, but there is no sign of any blooms. I believe the blooms are suppose to be purple.

Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

Why isn't my lavender plant blooming?
it might be that the plant hasnt reached maturity yet and wont bloom until it does. we have several plants/trees/shrubs planted that wont bloom for another year.
Reply:Lavendar never blooms the first year. Since it is a perrenial it will bloom the second or third year. Just be patient.
Reply:Most varieties bloom in spring or fall. Most do not bloom throughout the summer.
Reply:its either you planted an artificial or it has died
Reply:I agree. If you bought a starter plant, it might need one more year to be able to produce flower. I usually order plants from the catalog. And many of them will need several years to be able to bloom. So just be patient. I believe they will bloom next year. :-)
Reply:yeah, they may just be too young. but word of advice, in the late fall they will turn gray and brittle, DON'T cut them back. they should only have the dead foliage removed the next spring after setting new foliage. if you cut them back too soon, they won't bloom and it might actually kill them. good luck, i have 3 lavender plants that i started from seed a few years back and i have a great harvest every year. just be patient and they should bloom fine.

Lavender. Can anyone help us? Please!?

Does anyone have any info on buying seeds, growing and keeping Lavender? We have a garden, totally adore Lavender but we don't know the first thing about gardening. We live in Central Scotland. Any web-sites would be most welcome also. Many thanks :o)

Lavender. Can anyone help us? Please!?
Lavender is a mediterranean plant that will grow in any soil. And I mean ANY soil. It requires little care so is the ideal plant for you. Maybe a bit of water during dry periods in the summer. Always water early in morning or in evening.

If you are feeling adventurous you could also trim it back a bit when it has finished flowering. You can also cut off some flowers with stems and hang up to dry in a airy place and put dried flowers in a bowl or sow them in little bags to give to your friends.

never trim back to bare wood as it will not regrow from bare wood.

Best for you to buy plants rather than seed if you are novice gardener.

Plant the plants about 2-3 feet apart as they grow quite wide and sprawly. Plant along a path so you brush past them.

Plant in Spring when ground is warming up. probably May is a good time to plant in Scotland. Anyway good luck and the bees will thank you!

There is an area called Sequim Dungeness Valley in northern Washington, USA where they have a Lavender Growers Association. They put on a mighty impressive lavender festival each year.

www.lavenderfestival.com

Will list growers, and may provide information about growing lavender, types, etc. I think your climate and ours is not dissimilar.

Many lavender farms down there and grow many types of lavender including culinary. I recently bought their "Celebrate Lavender Festival" cookbook while in Seattle.

Have fun.
Reply:Lavendar is pretty much care-free, as long as you give it a good soil mixture upon planting. I've never raised it from seed. Instead, I purchase full-grown plants. Trim after flowering (collect the trimmings for drawers, stuff trimmings into leftover pantyhose/stockings, tie with lace it top). Did you know lavendar is a natural ant repellent? Therefore, with it's delightful smell, ant repelling tendencies, and pretty color, why not plant it near windows and doors, so that as you walk by, you get the fragrance?

Love it, too much.
Reply:Check the link below, it is a page on lavender. The rest of the site offers lots of growing info as well.

I love lavender too, and the multitude of uses is amazing, including medicinal uses. Not mention that it a beautiful plant. Sadly my hubby hates the smell, which means I am unable grow it.

I found a few web sites that will help you, and where to buy the seeds including some local nursery who will be more than willing to help.

Good luck with the lavender gardening
Reply:Not too rich soil and plenty of sun. Trim back shoots into fresh growth after flowering to encourage a healthy and productive plant with a full shape.

This as a good starting place for info. If you google lavender plants you'll find tons of info.

Also, drying lavender, it needs to be hung upside down in a warm, dry place.

It's a wonderful plant. Good luck and enjoy.
Reply:Hi.

Lavender is a great plant and can grow most places, even in Scotland, given plenty of light.

Lavender love well drained soil and don't take kindly to having their roots in the wet much. So if you plant it out in the garden it will pay you dividends to dig in loads of grit and sharp sand if your soil is on the heavy side. It will probably rot off if left in wet soggy soil through the winter, but is pretty hardy otherwise.

Some Lavender are tougher than others. Angustifolia is probably the toughest. The white lavenders aren't so hardy and I've lost many to the frosts and snow. French lavender are OK, but get spindly quicker than most.

However if you keep your lavender plants lightly trimmed back to a mound shape after flowering it will lengthen their lives. Don't clip into bare wood and remember that lavender will need replacing after a few years if they get too big and woody.

Most growers of lavender grow them from cuttings or if you're a novice why not try growing-on some plug plants. The cuttings are quite straightforward to take and will give you a great sense of achievement if they strike.

If you want more info, why not try taking out some of the RHS books i.e. "propagating plants" or "the encyclopedia of gardening" from the library. The RHS do a great Herb book too which is well worth a read.

Check out your soil type and if need be improve it for lavender growth. Do a Google search on lavender, read up on lavenders. Talk to other gardeners, but most of all enjoy your successes and don't be disappointed by your set backs.

Happy gardening.

I went out and bough the full plants and planted them in - as I remember they worked the best when the ground wasn't too damp or soily. Top tip as well: if you plant them near a pond or other source of water the smell of the lavender will carry over the water and make your whole garden smell lovely! Lavender also attracts bees and butterflies like mad, so it is lovely to watch them as well.

I love Lavender and am a fan of purple too but my partner hates the smell unfortunately!

If you have tried "Le Mas des Abeilles" or "Ours Brun" lavender honey. Which one is better?

The lavender honey sounds yum.

Why do I have 25 BUMBLE bees sleeping in my lavender each night?

bees love lavender, lucky for us honey lovers and your lucky to have such a sweet smell around you, enjoy - we do with ours!!!
Reply:lavender is a soporific, try some under your pillow, perhaps you will also fall asleep instead of checking each night if all 25 are safely home. Of course then there will be 26 cute fluffy sleepers.
Reply:You actually counted them? Well they say lavendar makes you sleepy so maybe they just zonk out when they are near it.

Desidning a toddler's room around Behr's Pale Orchid (a deep lavender)...any tips?

Have you used this color before, or something similar?

I have painted the bottom portion of her room with this pale orchis and plan to paint the top a cream color...with a wall border seperating them in the middle.

What are some creative ideas...I'm stumpped!

(It's not a very large room)

Desidning a toddler's room around Behr's Pale Orchid (a deep lavender)...any tips?
Are you wanting something really frilly, old-fashioned lacy or something bright and eye catching? I think some lime greens can go well with orchids. Have you picked out the border yet? Or the theme of the room? One thing that might work is to pick a favorite child's story and design the room around that. My great nephew had a "One Fish, Two Fish" room as a baby. You can decorate with brightly painted frames, pages from the book you choose (I don't know about copyright laws - I scanned the pages to get the right size for the frames but I had purchased the book and gave that to my nephew as well, so I hope that was ok.) with words painted on the wall - quotes from the story or other things you'd like to say - with similar themed pictures and knickknacks on shelves high enough for a toddler not to reach. I know if you could just find the right theme those creative juices would start to flow.
Reply:Add some splashes of bright yellow to brighten it up. Lavender is a cool color and it can be depressing.

Does anyone out there have a retro (1960's circa) lavender or lilac self-rimming, oval bath basin?

I recently bought the home that my grandfather built (and I grew up in.) My grandmother had wanted a purple bathroom (it was the 60's) - and my grandfather put in the light purple sink basin, toilet, and bathtub. The counter holding the sink is 6 feet long and I would love to find another basin to match the existing; to form a double sink. Checked Lowes, Home Depot, EBay and various websites without luck. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone out there have a retro (1960's circa) lavender or lilac self-rimming, oval bath basin?
Mansfield offered a lavender china colour about two years ago - you might want to call a plumbing supplier to see if they can call Mansfield to check stock. ( http://www.mansfieldplumbing.com )This isn't likely - but give it a try.

What you could also do - and this would be really hit and miss - would be to check out a building products recycling store (for instance - we have a "Habitat Re-Store" here).

Or maybe - just maybe you could get an old enamelled steel sink and get it re-glazed in lavender.

Anyway - if none of that works... why not just get two white sinks? Most 60's baths that were lavender were also done in white. That could be your last resort I suppose. Good luck!

Hope this helps!

Lavender plants?

I live in Tennessee. I bought a nice lavender plant and it started dying a few days later. I tried planting it in the ground, and that didn't help. Then I tried replanted it back in the same pot I got it from and added some gravel to the bottom to help drain the soil, as per HGTV.com tips.

Should I water it daily? Every other day? Anything else I should try?

Lavender plants?
Lavender plant is growing usually in the mountains well where is not so much hot.

It is better not to be in a pot of course.

You can try it in your garden and put water every day.Not to be on a strong sun this plant.

If it is not good you can try to put in the ground seeds. It will be more adoptive.

I
Reply:when we buy plants from a nursery they are usually at the blooming stage and very beautiful, but transplanting them can often stall the blooming process for a while. i suggest planting it back into the ground and pinching back the blooms. this way the plant itself can use the energy for producing roots and leaves. this will give your plant the stamina to produce flowers that are healthier in a few weeks.
Reply:Depending on the type of lavender, they often like hot and dry (full sun) conditions. Try letting it dry out well before next watering. Mine did not do well in a pot. Hope this helps. They are awesome when they are happy!
Reply:The more you move it in, and out of the pot, the more stressed it will be, because exposing the roots to the air does just that.

Just set it in a shady spot for now, until it recovers from stress. Trim off all dead branches, so that new ones can grow strong. And forget it! It will come back next year, if it does not want to grow for you this year. If you really want a living one now, get another at the nursery, but don't throw out the roots of this one.
Reply:go to your local nursery and ask someone
Reply:My lavender is very easily maintained. Make sure it gets a half day of sun and water so that the soil is moist. If you stick your finger in the dirt and it is dry, it needs water!
Reply:Dampness kills lavender plants. Dampness can come in the form of wet roots during the winter months or high humidity in the summer or overwatering.

You'll give your plants a head start if you add compost to your planting hole. It'll also help improve drainage, which prevents your plants from getting water-logged. While your plants are getting established, water when your soil starts getting dry. Once established you won't have to worry about watering because they'll be able to stand dry spells.

Make sure you have plenty of space between your plants for air flow and always plant in a sunny location.

Plant your lavender plants where they will be protected from harsh winter winds.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Baby Lavender Plant...need help and tips!?

Hello! I just germinated a French Lavender (it popped out of the ground a few days ago) in my apartment in Ohio. My first concern is that the second day the plant was out of the ground, I noticed a very small brown spot on its little leaf. I noticed this yesterday, the plant is still going strong, but is this an indictation that I overwatered maybe?

Also, any useful tips on freshly germinated lavender very much appreciated! I want it to grow and live as long as it can. Like I said, I live in an apartment in Ohio and try my best to give it as much sunlight as possible and water seldom. I am also looking for a plant light for those darker days...suggestions would be great!

Thank you everyone!

Baby Lavender Plant...need help and tips!?
Dr. Art Tucker, of the University of Delaware, advises taking cuttings in the fall before the first freeze (August-Nov.) when stems are semi-hardened. He recommends a mix of one part coarse perlite to one part sterilized, baked clay frit (cat litter). Cuttings are placed in trays being careful not to allow leaves to touch soil surfaces, which can result in burning the leaves. Uncovered flats are placed in a partially shaded greenhouse for propagation. Slow growth rates should be expected in the first year (6-8 in).

Lavender grows best in light soil, sand, or gravel, in a dry, open and sunny position. It requires good drainage and prefers a warm, well-drained loam with a slope to the south or southwest. Lavender varieties are susceptible to frost injury. English lavender varieties prefer chalky soils, whereas the lavandin varieties require slightly more acidic soils.

http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/fletcher/staff/j...

Lavender will grow indoors satisfactorily under standard fluorescent lamps, and exceptionally well under high output fluorescent , compact fluorescent, or high intensity discharge (metal halide or high pressure sodium) plant growing lights. Keep standard fluorescent lamps between 2 and 4 inches from the tops of your plant, high output and compact fluorescents approximately one foot above your plant, and HID lights between 2 and 4 feet above the plant, depending on wattage. Have an oscillating fan gently stir the seedling for at least 2 hours per day to stimulate shorter, sturdier, and more natural plant habit.

http://herbgardening.com/growinglavender...

When seedlings emerge, provide strong lights so that they don’t grow weak and leggy.

When seedlings have several sets of true leaves, gently loosen the soil around the plants and transfer them into a 2” pot or 2” apart in deeper flats of well-drained planting mix. Since nutrients quickly leach out of containers, add some granular slow-release fertilizer to the soil. Snip off the growing tip to encourage branching.

When all danger of frost is past, gradually expose your plant to outdoor conditions over the course of a week, being careful not to leave it in full sun right away. Plant outdoors into well-drained garden soil which has had compost mixed in. In poorly drained, damp soil, lavender roots are highly susceptible to rotting. Adding lime to acid soils also helps improve its chances, since lavender prefers a soil pH of 6.0-8. Lavender often does not require additional nitrogen fertilizer; in fact, too much nitrogen can result in less fragrant flowers and plants that are more sensitive to frost and fungal infections. Make sure air circulates freely around your plant.

Good luck! Hope this is helpful.

What color shoes with lavender dress w/ black accents?

I am a freshman in college, but I am going to my boyfriend's senior prom in 2 weeks and need suggestions for shoe colors.

My dress is a beautiful lavender shade with minimal black lace and ribbon accents. I have worn this dress with black shoes before but I am wanting to trying something newer and fresher. I have thought of a magenta hue or a bright blue or teal as possible combos. I would like to know what other colors people think would look good with my dress? (OTHER THAN NEUTRALS! no black silver or anything of that sort because those are standbys but want to think of other possibilities) I am fairly good with coordinating colors usually and I am honestly not afraid to try bold combinations since I am still young and there is no better time that I will be able to do this.

So what do y'all suggest??

What color shoes with lavender dress w/ black accents?
um ROYAL purple satin flats or pumps!!! in round toe if pumps and slightly squared if flats. OMG, u will look like royalty. also try a canary yellow if ur bold or a taxi-yellow if SUPER BOLD. also try tangerine orange and robin's egg blue.
Reply:shimmery silver!
Reply:I know you said it's just a stand in, but I think black would look the best. Going for bold colors and such might be too much for Prom. You want to look elegant, not cheap or party-ish or uncoordinated.

Enjoy your evening!
Reply:I think black is always classy! Would be so pretty with your black accents and your beau's possible black tux! Maybe a new style shoe instead of the ones you wore last.
Reply:black or silver
Reply:black high heels or lavender highheels
Reply:Maybe you can find some lavendar shoes to match or white might work also.
Reply:I think you should go with a light purple shoe since it's lavender.Hope you make the right decision!Good luck!
Reply:i prefer silver dear.. and yes you are right with your principle to try new combination and bold one since you are young... enjoy it dear, it's a fashion anyway.
Reply:try white that would look awsome . my sister has a lavender dress and wore it with white accesories and shoes and it looked badd ***.. we are italian we know about fashion ..lol...

Has my lavender bush died?

My lavender did not produce any green leaves or flowers this spring. It is dry and brown. Has it died?

Has my lavender bush died?
Probably, they are short lived perennials......but first try cutting back until you find green.........er, blue foliage. If you get to ground level and no living tissue, time to dig up and replace.

Can you wear white to a summer wedding if it is the brides second marriage and she is wearing lavender?

This is a small outdoor wedding at noon in CA and I would like to wear a white sundress if appropriate.

Can you wear white to a summer wedding if it is the brides second marriage and she is wearing lavender?
go ahead and wear the white, but use colorful accesories.

Wear multi colored beads around your neck. Or a red belt.

big colorful earings.

Just make sure you don't outdress the bride, afterall it is her day.

With your splash of color, your white dress will be lovely for a summer outdoor wedding.
Reply:wear pink instead :) that hotpink u will really stand out

I was wondering if anyone went through to the lavender brown auditions and got selected?

If so do you have any idea when people are told if they got through or anything? or have they already been told? thanks

I was wondering if anyone went through to the lavender brown auditions and got selected?
I went, but didn't get selected. I saw saw two people who got a call-back though.

Really, they would have called you back as you left the room after your audition and taken your details. But they would have contacted you by Monday if you had been successful.

So if you haven't been contacted, you probably haven't been selected. You could try contacting Warner Bros about becoming an extra? Then that would get you involved and networking.

What did you say as your interesting fact? Put it down as an additional detail on your question and i'll check back later.

What is a pretty color that go with Lavender?

Pale yellow. Yellow is purples contrasting color. Purple and yellow go together just like red and blue make purple! See goolge.com http://images.google.com/images?q=color+...

What is a pretty color that go with Lavender?
My last bedroom was lavendar %26amp; silver. I did lavendar bedding with silver/gray picture frames %26amp; candles. I also had darker purple accents.
Reply:Believe it or not: Burgundy. But that's a pretty strong statement.

I'd say the more acceptable colors would be soft, pale yellow, violet, and white.

If it's for a girl's room try using pastels: yellow, pink, green, blue and violet all together so it becomes a pastel theme with lavender as the primary color.
Reply:peach
Reply:a off white or pale tan color not a white really but darker more creamy
Reply:celadon green
Reply:Light yellow,light pink,cream
Reply:A pastel Pink or yellow. Reminds me of Easter Colors..
Reply:yellow, or pink in pastels
Reply:try pale yellow or neutral yellow or any soft shades of yellow will also do. lavander is a hue of violet. yellow on the color wheel is the opposite of violet which means, yellow complements violet the best.
Reply:Sage green and or cream
Reply:Well i find light on light work well like a mint or cream green or yellow but if you want o be bold then spice it up with a golden brown to a olive green you should know you need the Primary color, base color then accent color... meaning Cieling ,base boards ,Wall ETC... Then splash color or colors this way you wont be looking at lavender this lavender that.
Reply:Just about any Pastel color. My personally a favorite is purple and green together. Blue also works well too (just about any shade). Darker purples, and pinks. Most yellows. I'd stay away from reds and oranges with such a light purple.
Reply:use a green -
Reply:Bright white. Or a dark purple.
Reply:Silver goes really well with lavender. That's one of my favorite color combos. White and black go with anything of course. White and lavendar for a room is a lovely mix and looks very fresh. If you're looking for a more adventurous color, try a light blue. That goes decently well.
Reply:yellow, but the right shade. pink too!
Reply:mint green
Reply:I like silver or dove (soft) gray--very deco-hollywood with glossy black accents-tres chic
Reply:yellow and blue together.. nice combo
Reply:take a sample of the paint on a similar surface that is to be painted to any paint store and compare your sample to their paint cards - you can then decide which combo appeals to your tastes the most. Or check out your local bookstore's home decorating section, they will most likely have a book outlining which colours go well together. Professionals use a colour wheel which says the proper accent for purple is yellow, but I personally find the two together unappealing. It is your room, I say to heck with the experts - go with what you like. Best of luck.
Reply:Silver, Dove-White, or Olive Green
Reply:drak dark brown or navy blue or silver these three colors go very well with lavender.. it all depends on what are you choosing the colors for. for example for a baby room pastel yellow or lime green would look nice with lavender.

What is history of the old lavender seller hn1492 royal doulton?

and here is what i found of lavender

The ancient Greeks called the lavender herb nardus, after the Syrian city of Naarda. It was also commonly called nard.

During Roman times, flowers were sold for 100 denarii per pound, which was about the same as a month's wages for a farm labourer, or fifty haircuts from the local barber. Lavender was commonly used in Roman baths to scent the water, and it was thought to restore the skin. When the Roman Empire conquered southern Britain, the Romans introduced lavender.

During the height of the Plague, glove makers at Grasse would scent their leathers with lavender oil, and this was claimed to ward off the Plague. This story could have some validity as the Plague was transmitted by fleas, which lavender is known to repel.

What movie did the song Lavender's Blue come from?

I teach it to my piano students all the time, but can't remember the movie it was in.

What movie did the song Lavender's Blue come from?
"Lavender Blue", also called "Lavender's blue", is a folk song dating to the 17th century. A hit version of the song, sung by Burl Ives, was featured in the Walt Disney movie "So Dear to My Heart." It was Ives' first hit song, and reintroduced it to popularity in the 20th century. A version of the song was also recorded by the Scottish band Marillion for their 1985 album Misplaced Childhood.
Reply:I vaguely remember it coming from the movie "LILI" with Richard Chamberlain and Leslie Caron. (at least I think) Sorry Menary is right. I was thinking "Hi Lily, Hi Lily, Hi Lo"

Update: Yes, the movie was Dear to my Heart (as per the Wickipedia postings below), but Marillion are in fact an English band (from Aylesbury and originally called Silmarillion) NOT a Scottish band as it states on that page.
