I want to dye my lavender purse black...help!?

I want to dye my knit lavender purse black. Any ways to dye it completely black and for it to look like it's the original? Where can I buy the dye and is it just fabric dye? Should I bleach it first? K thanks!!

No you don't need to bleach it first. Dyeing it from lavender to black shouldn't be too hard, though you may have to do it a couple of times to get it dark enough and even coloration. There are a couple things you should take into consideration first though. What fabric is it made from? Home dyeing doesn't work as well on synthetic blends as it does on organic fibers (i.e. polyester or rayon vs. cotton or silk). Also, it may not dye the stitching, so if you have a lot of stitching (seams, etc) visible, you may not want to do this.

Secondly, your purse obviously needs to be machine washable.

If you are going to go ahead with it, then RIT dye is the most common. You can find it at most large grocery stores, craft stores, and drug stores. The liquid is easier to use than the powder or tablets and you'll get a better result. Follow all bottle directions. Good luck!
Reply:If your purse is fabric, then you can use ordinary Rit dye, available from most drug and grocery stores. Just follow the bottle instructions.

To go from a lighter color (lavender) to a dark color like black, there's no need to bleach your bag. After you dye your bag and achieve the color you want, you can try soaking your bag in some vinegar and water to help prevent color bleeding. If you want it really black, you may have to dye twice.

If your purse is leather, then I'd take to a shoe repair shop and ask them what they recommend. If your purse is made of woven straw, raffia, seagrass or other natural woodsy-type material, then you'll have to buy dyes made for those things, which you can find here: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/19...
Reply:use RIT dye its at Walgreens. its cheap too like 2 bucks
