Lavender plant.?

My lavender plant is in a pot outside. It has been doing very well.

The temperatures have dropped a bit %26amp; we are having less sun hours. One stock, on the top of the purple flower is browning. and

A few of the lower green leaves, about mid plant are begining to loose their deep green colour, They are on the verge of yellowing, this is happening to about 20o/o of the plant. We have had alot of rain. Do you think it is too wet maybe? Should I bring it inside to dry out a bit? What would you do?

dottie the cook...and the gardener too? My source says that in areas with lots of rain, lavender should be planted in elevated beds, troughs or pots. So I ask you to be sure that your pot is absolutely well drained? Other than that...it mentions that lavenders are sun lovers, native to the Mediterranean area, so if you have had lots of rain (and obviously a lot of overcast days) it could just be letting you know that it is unhappy with its living arrangement. If that is the case, eventually the sun will shine again. How old is the plant? My lavender (that I coax into survival with micro-climates) tends to die off in the center and next to the ground. I would be sure that your pot is raised to drain, and watch and see.
Reply:Not sure I have mine in a raised bed in the front of the house. My lavender is looking just fine.

Maybe you need to dry the plant out.
Reply:It probably wants to be out of that pot and into the ground! How much dirt does it have? Lavender isn't usually kept in a pot for long. It prefers the ground.

Guess your plant is too soggy. Probably needs to be dried out a little. We have ours in the ground, sandy soil, coastal weather and they are doing OK by themselves here in the overcast days, rain, fog.



I have several varieties of lavender bushes in my backyard. Some varieties are hardier than others. I have one that is having a hard time.
Reply:We have a lot of lavender plants in the front yard and side of the house but they are grown outside. They need full sun and moderate water. Yes your plant is getting too much water. If you can plant it outside and let it grow "wild". We don't do much to ours. We just let nature do all the work for us. You still have to trim it down before winter though and it will grow beautiful when they come back again in spring.
Reply:Maybe you should bring it inside for a bit then you can give it the right amount of water and sun and shade.
Reply:I have about 8 lavendar in a front flower bed. All planted at the same time. The ones that have more shade than sun are really growing. The one that is planted next to a hydranga that gets about 4 hours of sun a day is beautiful but not as large as the others. Try moving it to a different location for a while and replanting it. If it's in a pot it may get root rot over time.
