Can you mix essential oils with peroxide for cleaning ?

I have been trying to wean myself off store bought chemicals for cleaning. So I've been exploring the use of natural alternatives for cleaning, like peroxide (H2O2). I've also read that essential oils, like lavender and tea tree, are useful if cleaning and sanitizing, in addition to smelling nice. So my questions is: is there any reason mixing peroxide and a few drops of essential oils would be toxic? Especially around small children ?

No problem mixing eo's and peroxide. There are lots of 'natural' cleansers to use. Vinegar, baking soda, peroxide... But...you need something additional to emulsify the oil and water. Dish detergent is fine. Alcohol works too. A squirt of soap, a few drops of eo's and warm water. Citrus oils are cheap and are great for using this way because their smell is nice and familiar. Eucalyptus and Tea Tree and Lavenders are fine as well. Can leave a mess on glass, you'll need to adjust your percentages. Other eo's are appropriate if you are using them to keep down specific pathogens. Good for you!

We know that the tea tree oil is a natural anti fungal, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-infection oil. It is effective against nail fungus, ringworm, athlete's foot, dandruff, acne and many types of infestations including lice, mites and scabies.



? Cleaning - Tea Tree Oil doesn’t mix well with water, but it can be mixed with Glycerin and then shaken to disperse it. In this way you can add tea tree oil to your mop water or to a sponge for general cleaning.



? Plant Spray: Add few drops of Tea Tree Oil to a 32 ounce bottle of water, then add 16 drops of Hydrogen Peroxide. Mix well and mist plant with spray bottle. Do not wipe off.



? Sunburn - Tea Tree Oil added to your favorite cream or mixed with a vitamin E or Almond Oil will ease sunburn and may prevent peeling.
Reply:Oils will not emulsify in water, and H2O2 does not disinfect. Oils only work if used in a soap base. Otherwise you are just smearing oils around and not cleaning anything. In short, it will not really work.



Using natural oils that have been saponified (such as Dr. Bronner's soap at any health food store) is good. Vinegar can be used to clean, and baking soda to deodorize.

Reply:Shouldn't be a problem. We make our own cleaning solutions. I don't know about the peroxide though. We just use, for example, water, vinegar, and an essential oil (I think lavendar) for a cleaning solution for our floors. Works great and smells nice. Many "home remedies" out there for cleaning solutions.
Reply:H2O2 DIS-INFECTS because of the free oxygen witch would react with the oils and nuetralize it, so, no. distilled water and pure soap, like ivory , is a great cleaner and you could use your oils. i find the safest most effective dis-infectant to be triclocarbon , fond in dawn and alot of other DETERGENT cleaners.
