What is the best way to treat cradle cap?

I am a herbalist. I have been using lavender oil on my sons head, and that works pretty good. Then I brush the little scales off, but they always come back. I was just wondering if any one else knows a good natural remedy that works for cradle cap.

Suggestions?

Hi Kara, you don't really need to do anything, but if it bothers you, try shampooing more frequently and gently brushing your baby's scalp with a soft brush or a terrycloth towel.

If your lavender oil is not work, you can also find an other oil remedy helpful. (The oil helps to loosen dry flakes.) If you want to give it a try, rub just a small amount of a pure, natural oil ? such as almond or olive oil ? on your baby's scalp and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Then gently comb out the flakes with a fine-toothed comb or brush them out with a soft brush.

You can by itself do its home mixture and use this oil for your cradle cap, a mixture contains the following proven, natural ingredients: sunflower seed oil, olive esters, squalene, Vitamin E, chamomile and olive fruit oil.

Also almond oil is a natural moisturizing oil that is completely neutral and perfect for the sensitive skin on babies' scalps.

You need to follow up by washing your baby's scalp with a gentle baby shampoo? the last thing you want to do is leave oil on his head, which could clog the pores and cause the flakes to stick. You might try leaving the shampoo on for a few minutes before rinsing, to help cut the oil.

Reply:An hour before shampooing, rub your baby's scalp with baby oil, mineral oil, or petroleum jelly to help lift the crusts and loosen scales.

When ready to shampoo, first get the scalp wet, then gently scrub the scalp with a soft-bristle brush (a soft toothbrush works well) for a few minutes to remove the scales. You can also try gently removing the scales with a fine-tooth comb.

Then wash the scalp with baby shampoo, rinse well, and gently towel dry.

Good luck. Namaste.
Reply:Kara,

Since you are an herbalist you should appreciate alternative ideas. It is something in your envrionment...whether it's the detergent or something in the air. Toxins cause their little bodies to do things like that...it's not because they are laying down all the time either...what about those that sit down all the time they don't get bottom scalies!! So I would think about removing the toxins and replacing items in your home that are not full of toxins. The link I included is a goverment website that shows what's toxic. Did you know Gerber baby wash has formaldehyde in it?? But they try to dispute the lavender in it is good!!! How about that for use of herbs??!! Check it out! contact me if you want more info!!
Reply:Aloe Vera works wonders inside and out! Good not just for skin problems but stomach and intestinal as well! Stops cramps and worth the bad taste it might have in your mouth... totally safe and so efficient that it is even mentioned in the Bible.
Reply:My mom used to very generously rub olive oil into the baby's scalp and let it soak in for a few minutes. Then she would comb the cradle cap out with fine toothed comb or brush it off with a soft brush, The she would shampoo with baby shampoo. Guaranteed cure after 1 treatment..
Reply:I always used baby oil. My daughter had it worse than my son, he didn't suffer with it for some reason.
Reply:I have four kids and every one of them went through a bout with this. We used baby oil.. they look like "Squiggy" on Laverne and Shirley, but it works...

hope you find a solution...

Peace
Reply:I use gentle naturals for my daughter and they make a formula for cradle cap, you can find it at target. I have also used baby oil, don't use a lot put rub it in gently, let it soak in a little bit and then use a baby brush or a very soft tooth brush to loosen up the scales, wash as normal after you do this
