He is a 5yr old rottweiler who is also experiencing /hair loss and skin irritation. He has seen many vets nothing works. Any help would be appreciated.
Does anyone have a home remedy other than Lavender and Alcohol for severly irritated ears, internally, on dogs
Have you ever considered taking a dog to see a veterinary dermatologist? You may find out that there is actually a medical reason for this problem. And by the way, the next time you think it's a good idea to put alcohol in or on any irritation, try it on yourself first. Ouch!
Also, asking for medical advice on the internet does provide some interesting answers but will probably only cause you to harm your dog more. There are some things that cannot be cured without actual medication.
Reply:TRY....White Distilled Vinegar with Alcohol
50% of each
Reply:when my dog has any type of skin irritation( including fleas) I I put 1/4 to 1/2 cup chlorine bleach to 1 quart of warm water.Put it in a spray bottle and saturate the coat. Then wait five minutes and rinse well, shampoo and condition his hair.He had problems with his ears for a while.I tried everything. Then finally used a Q-Tip and cleaned the ears with the bleach solution.Dried them then added a small drop of mineral oil to each ear. I bathe him and clean his ears in this manner one time per week.Haven't had any problems since!Fleas are usually the culprit.even the hair loss! When a dog gets a flea bite they will scratch, lick and bite the area, which results in hair loss!Fleas in their ears cause the problem you described!Just because you don't see the flea doesn't mean it's not their! Also,if your dog eats a flea it can cause tape worms!
Reply:Tea Tree oil applied with a q-tip.
Reply:I agree with the tea tree oil. Though you should dilute it, it is very strong. The straight mixture could cause a stinging or burning sensation. Mix it with water or something, or get it in an already dilute mixture. You can find it at health food stores. Or if you have a PetSmart near you that carries horse supplies, try Healing Tree T-Zon Equine Dermal Care Cream. I know it says it's for horses but it's very gentle. I've even used it on my skin to help heal cuts and get rid of acne faster.
You can also try wiping with witch hazel on a cotton swab. Just don't pour it straight in the ear.
Reply:you need to pluck the inner hairs in his ears as this does help my dog , hurts a little but definately works in the long run
Reply:My ears would be irritated too, if I had alcohol or lavender put down there.
Please don't use any pure alcohol or essential oil! It can create very bad burns on skin, human and dog.
