Lavender scent bad for baby boys?

My Mom recently read an article that stated something about lavender scented baby products (bath wash, lotions, etc) could be bad for baby boys, but she didn't remember where she read it, or what was bad about it. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I haven't used any scented products on my son, but I'm curious about this because I use lavender hand soap and also for my dish detergent...

Lavender scent bad for baby boys?
I hope not! I've been using it on my son since day one. He doesn't seem any different so I'd say it's Okie Dokie!
Reply:It won;t harm him anymore than it would a baby girl%26gt; I use lavender all through my house-it has a calming effect on BOTH sexes. The problem is that ANY baby may be sensitive to it like any perfume, but that applies to both genders.
Reply:stop reading BS, not all of it is true, u can't believe everything that people right.

I never heard of it. I have a soup with lavender that i use for my baby boy. It's not bad it suppose to relax u , baby , specially if u have a lotion with lavender or bath soup, it comes baby's down.

It says it can cause hormonal imbalances and breast growth.
Reply:Natural lavender oil is a hormone disruptor. It affects girls too, but because it is similar to female hormones, no one worries about it in little girls.

Unless you buy products that are scented with natural essential oils (like Dr Bronner's soap), then don't worry about that. On second thought, Johnson and Johnson's may be full of hormone disruptors and neurotoxins too. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

I believe that I read that once you take the lavender oil away, then all the minute symptoms disappear. Tea tree oil is the same way. Too bad, that stuff is cool.

Edit: Tak is right. You have to go overboard before it does any harm. Lavender soup is fine. The concern is with the concentrated essential oil.
Reply:One of the most important things here is to know HOW the product is scented.

Is it naturally scented or "artificial lavender". Anything artificially scented is not great for you. Always go "natural".

Secondly, if the product is naturally scented, use it in moderation. If you use lavender baby soap or baby bath, and lavender scented cream and lavender scented laundry detergent and have lavender saches in the baby's room, I think you are overdoing it.

Try to eliminate as much unnatural product as possible in your home especially with a baby around.

When you hear things like this it almost always ends up that the product needs to be used very excessively to be a problem.
Reply:I had not heard that, but I researched based on your question and found this:

It appears that lavender oil may spur breast growth in baby boys. I don't think that your use of it for dishes or hand washing should pose a risk, since you are not using them on him.
Reply:Lavender can cause a skin reaction in either gender. For people like me with sensitive skin, I avoid all perfumes and dyes like the plague. I suggest doing the same for the little ones, just to be on the safe side.
