Care of a Lavender plant?

Is it necessary to cut back a lavender plant in the Fall. Can you just leave the purple flowers and leave nature to take care.

Care of a Lavender plant?
I wouldn't cut back the lavender plant until spring. The flowers will fade and over the winter there can be some damage to the branches. When the plant begins to sprout new leaves you can trim off any parts that aren't sprouting. I would give it some fertilizer in the spring as well, a granular slow release formula is the easiest. There are different varieties of lavender, some are hardier than others. I live in zone 6 and "Munstead" lavender seems to be the hardiest variety.Good luck.
Reply:They will produce more flowers with some pruning. Best time varies by variety, say the experts quoted in the link.
