Why is lavender oil not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy?

My mid-wife said not to use lavender oil/lotion or any other products with lavender in them for the entire pregnancy. Why... because apparently it triggers contractions. I have to say, at 40 weeks I actually smeared a whole bunch on hoping it would do the trick and went near any lavender bush I saw, but I was still 5 days past my due date.

Lavendar oil is an aroma theapy scents. This is a very relaxing smell. But you do not want to over do it with this type of oil. It may be ok for you, but not for your baby. Yes lavendar is very relaxing, it can also be very strong depending on how much it is used, and how many times you use it.
Reply:i have never heard of this. I thought that lavender was supposed to be relaxing.
Reply:lavendar, and rosemary have always been warned against during pregnancy. Its a uterine stimulant. and that would cause you to miscarry.

Stay away from caffiene too. it can do that too.
Reply:I never heard that.
