Question about growing Lavender?

I just purchased a pack of organic Lavender seeds today, and I have a few question of how to go about growing them. The instructions sayto sow indoors 6-10 weeks before last Spring frost, and then right after says seeds need to be chilled 4-6 weeks in order to germinate. So, do I freeze them first and then sow them, or what? On a side note, what would happen if I just went outside and planted them in my backyard? Would they grow? Thanks. :)

Question about growing Lavender?
Hi there,

"Chill" does not mean "freeze". Chill is usually done in the the vegetable bin or in a jar with a lid put on the bottom shelf of your fridge. :o)

"SOWING ... Lavender seed can be sown as early in the spring as ground can be worked in a sunny, well-drained, well-limed soil. Plant Lavender seed 1/8 inch deep and cover seeds with fine soil, well pressed down, 1 inch apart.

THINNING ... Thin 10 to 12 inches apart when Lavender plants are 2 inches high.

GERMINATION ... Lavender seed germinates in 10-20 days depending on soil and weather conditions.

REMARKS ... To dry Lavender for use, gather on a dry day in summer when flowers on plants are fully opened. Place in a cool shed or room. Place flower spikes on frames of stretched cheesecloth or netting for air circulation. When Lavender is dry, remove flowers from stems and seal in wide mouth bottles."
