The best way to care for lavender plant, and is it normal for it to die back.?
a few things I've learned about lavender

full sun at least 6 hours a day

water around the base both of which has been said

if the plant starts to dry out or turn brown get crispy or just look bad i trim that part of the plant ... new growth will start and it will be healthier

last thing i learned this season it must winter..a mild winter might kill it because it cant sleep... i had several die only two survived and they were in a bed away from the house... the 4 plants that died were right next to the house ...probably warmer there by 2 to 6 degrees just enough to make a difference
Reply:Lavender plants are sun loving and need well-drained soil. They can be planted almost any time, and even started indoors from seed. Plants may succumb to old age after ten years but are cheaply replaced.

Full hot sun is the first ingredient in the recipe and this is a plant that thrives in the hottest part of my garden.

Excellent drainage is another ingredient in the recipe because any excessive wetness around the roots will lead to root rot. It is for this reason that growing lavenders on clay is not recommended. If you have clay soils, grow this plant in a container or in a raised bed with sandy soils in the raised bed.
Reply:Sun and water. They're usually pretty tough plants. Yes, they die back. Cut off the dead plant material, and just give it sun and water in the next season.
Reply:Well i have a lavender plant and i had for 3 years now.. what i do is not to wet the leaves of it just give the roots a couple of sprays of water unless if its a big one then you'll be pouriong cups... anyways the key is not to wet the leaves of the plant..... and how about some plant food... or ask ur local florist for more information...
